What is i-ACTIVSENSE?

As automotive technology advances rapidly, more care manufacturers have been exploring the ways that these new inventions can be used to make driving easier and safer. Mazda is at the forefront of this effort with its i-ACTIVSENSE suite of driver assistance features. i-ACTIVSENSE uses sophisticated cameras and radar to detect and mitigate hazards on the road, resulting in a safer experience for everyone.

i-ACTIVSENSE comprises eight separate technologies that work independently and together to serve as an extra set of eyes for the driver. These features include:

  • An adaptive front-lighting system (AFS) that automatically turns the headlights when you steer the vehicle. This increases visibility and provides brighter, more expansive illumination.
  • An automatic high-beam control (HBC) system that automatically switches back and forth between high and low beams as needed, to provide additional illumination without blinding approaching drivers.
  • Mazda Radar Cruise Control allows you to set a safe following distance for highway driving and automatically adjusts your speed to maintain that distance even in stop-and-go traffic.
  • The rear vehicle monitoring system alerts you if another car is approaching from behind or a neighboring lane, allowing you to react to prevent a potential collision.
  • The lane departure warning system detects lane markings and alerts you if you're in danger of drifting from your lane.
  • Forward obstruction warning detects vehicles or obstacles blocking your vehicle and alerts you so that you can take action to avoid a collision.
  • Smart City Brake Support (SCBS) is designed to help drivers prevent collisions in urban and other highly congested areas with dense traffic. It provides maximum brake power when the driver brakes or applies the brakes automatically if he or she fails to do so in time.
  • Acceleration control prevents your car from moving forward suddenly if you press the accelerator by mistake.

Mazda's iACTIVSENSE features are available or standard in most of the brand's 2017 and 2018 models, highlighting the company's commitment to safety and innovation.
