When Mazda first announced they would release a diesel version of their popular midsize sedan, the Mazda6, in North America, longtime fans of the automaker were excited about the model. The goal was to have the car out on the market by 2013, but emissions issues put the company's plans on hold. At the time, many thought the diesel version would never see the light of day, but just recently, Mazda's North American CEO, Jim O'Sullivan, has revealed that’s simply not true. A diesel Mazda6 is still a part of the plan and should arrive in the near future.

Mazda's turbocharged 2.2L Skyactiv-D engine is currently undergoing many improvements by the brand's engineers. They are working on delivering an exceptional clean diesel engine to the public that also has the performance aspects fans expect from a sedan like the Mazda6. As of now, they have a plan set in motion to get the engine where it needs to be. However, it's still unknown as to when the diesel-powered Mazda6 will appear on the market, but we’re keeping our fingers crossed that we'll receive word soon.
