The 2016 Mazda3, Mazda6 and Mazda CX-5 have each earned Top Safety Pick+ ratings from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety. All three models passed IIHS testing with flying colors, earning top scores in each evaluation, thanks to their first-class safety features offered throughout their lineups.
Receiving a Top Safety Pick+ rating from the IIHS requires earning a "Good" rating in all five of the company's crash-worthiness tests. To be eligible for the title, a vehicle must also have an available collision prevention system, and to earn the title, this system has to receive an "advanced" rating. The Mazda3, Mazda6 and Mazda CX-5 were able to pass each of these tests due to Mazda's i-ACTIVESENSE safety suite, which includes Smart Brake Support, Radar Cruise Control and Blind Spot Monitoring, to name a few. These technologies, along with each model's quality build, make them some of the safest cars on the market today.
"We pride ourselves on the engineering that went into making our vehicles among the lightest and most efficient in their segments, but our SKYACTIV Technology has also helped us design and build some of the safest vehicles on the road as well," said Jim O'Sullivan, president and CEO, MNAO. "It means a lot that Mazda vehicles are stylish and fun to drive. It means much more that we don't have to sacrifice any of that style for the safety features that help keep Mazda drivers and passengers safe."
