Mazda has had tremendous success with its signature SKYACTIV® TECHNOLOGY in the U.S., but one thing we’re missing in the States is the product’s diesel engine variant. It’s been noticeably absent from Mazda models on the North American market for some time now, but it turns out the automaker does have plans to introduce the engine here in the coming future.

Automotive News recently spoke with Mazda’s head honcho, Masamichi Kogai, who revealed the latest news about the SKYACTIV-D engine. He didn’t give an exact date as to when the powerplant would make its debut, but he did say it would land in the U.S. before he steps down as the company’s CEO. We’re hoping this means we could see the engine within the next few years.

Aside from the diesel engine, it has also been announced that Mazda is currently getting ready to release a whole bout of next-generation SKYACTIV® TECHNOLOGY. The new engines will offer a 30 percent improvement in efficiency and one will even come with an 18:1 compression ratio, drastically improving performance. A variety of new designs will also debut in conjunction with the new engines, giving Mazda fans plenty to look forward to.

You’ll be able to find each of these new engine options and more at Reliable Mazda when they arrive in Springfield.
