Mazda has released the official EPA fuel economy figures for the upcoming 2016 Mazda CX-9 and they are nothing less than impressive. According to the brand, the new model is capable of delivering best-in-class city and combined fuel economy, making it a top choice in the mid-size SUV segment.

Buyers in search of a fuel-efficient three-row crossover should look no further than the 2016 Mazda CX-9. When the new model goes on sale at Reliable Mazda this spring, it will produce an EPA-estimated 22 mpg city, 28 mpg highway and 25 mpg combined with the standard front-wheel-drive configuration. That’s a 32-percent improvement in fuel economy compared to last year’s model!

To make the new fuel economy numbers possible, Mazda outfitted the CX-9 with lightweight SKYACTIV Technology, which contributed to the car’s weight reduction. A new SKYACTIV-G 2.5T engine was added to the crossover that is able to produce the same power as a V6 without negatively affecting fuel economy. The latest powerplant generates 250 horsepower at 5,000 rpm and 310 lb.-ft. of torque at 2,000 rpm, while working alongside a six-speed SKYACTIV-Drive automatic transmission.

It can also be paired with an all-wheel-drive configuration, which brings the fuel economy numbers to 21 mpg city, 27 mpg highway and 23 mpg combined.

Look out for the arrival of the 2016 Mazda CX-9 at Reliable Hyundai within the coming weeks to test drive the SUV and learn more about its capabilities.
