On your mark, set, go! Lace up your shoes, stretch your legs and get ready to burn off some calories at the 22nd annual Turkey Trot in downtown Springfield. A great way to kick off your Thanksgiving celebrations, the energetic event is set to get underway at 8 a.m. on Nov. 24.

The timed 5K run/walk has become quite the hit over the years, drawing in more than 7,000 people just last year alone. It truly is an all-inclusive event too. Have little, little ones or four-legged friends at home? No problem, they are invited to join in on the fun, as there will be a variety of categories, including:

Elite: This is for more serious runners who have completed a timed 5K race in the last 18 months in less than 21 minutes (men) and 24 minutes (women).

Runner: Those who are able to complete the race without walking or breaks should opt for this group, which starts after Elite.

Walker/Family: Perfect for those who will be able to walk throughout the entire race without a break, this category is geared toward families with kids and/or a stroller.

Pet: Last but not least, your dog is welcome to attend the race, although he has to be leashed at all times. Attendees can run or walk.

Proceeds will benefit the Springfield-Green County Park Board Scholarship and the Developmental Center of the Ozarks.
