Vehicles take a beating during the cold winter months. As temperatures continue to take a dip here in Springfield, we know that snow and ice is just around the corner. And let's face it, you’ve worked hard to buy your new car, so doesn’t it make sense to protect your investment? Take a look at our top winterizing tips below to find out how to do just that.

Give the Engine Extra Time to Warm Up

Whether you’re driving an older vehicle or a brand-new Mazda, you’ll want to make sure to give it a little more time to warm up during the winter months. We recommend giving your car an extra minute or two of idle time to help its engine oil warm up, thin out and flow more smoothly.

Cooling System Check

Freezing cold temperatures can cause rubber parts to become brittle and fail. Only when the engine is not hot, make sure to inspect the radiator and heater hoses for any signs of cracking, leaking or contamination from oil or grease. Bring your car to our onsite service center if your hoses look like they might be in trouble.

Get Rid of Salt & Dirt

Salt and dirt can have a devastating effect on your car’s paint. Before the snow hits the ground, make sure to have a fresh coat of wax applied to your vehicle’s exterior finish. Don’t forget to get the wheel wells and underbody washed on a weekly basis too.

On the inside, be sure to have floor mats in your car. They will protect your carpet from dirt and water that is easily tracked into your vehicle during the winter months.
