New Year celebrations may be over for most of us, but not for the Chinese culture. In fact, it’s Happy New Year once again for Chinese-Americans in Springfield. From 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 28, gather your family and friends and head down to the Discovery Center to celebrate the Chinese New Year in style.
Located at 438 East St. Louis Street, the Discovery Center will host the awe-inspiring gathering that has become quite a hit in our city. The Chinese New Year festival features a variety of activities for the whole family to partake in. They include constructing a pagoda, making a Chinese lantern and learning about fireworks. In addition, you’ll also get to experience traditional Chinese music and dancing.
The Dragon Parade is another awesome aspect of the event, giving attendees the chance to see a beautifully decorated dragon make its way through the venue, while it moves to Chinese music that will be playing in the background.
Admission is just $12 for adults and $8 for children 3 to 15 years of age; little ones who are under 3 years old will get in for free. Mark your calendars today and experience a cultural event that you won’t soon forget!
