Recently, Mazda showed off a sporty coupe that uses an electric powertrain. The company hinted about the two-seater car in a 30-minute-long video.
More About the Car
The auto manufacturer revealed two colors for the new vehicle: red and white. From the video, the vehicle seems like a closed-roof coupe, more like the rotary-powered RX-7 and RX-8.
At the front of this car, two thin-lined headlights sprout from the smooth and well-polished bodywork. Also, there is a Mazda badge placed between the headlights that light up.
The video also shows a chassis that holds the battery module. The battery module sits between the two car occupants. There also appears to be a metal box behind the seats that could be an additional set of batteries. The car also features scissor doors.
Spending Plans
Mazda intends to spend 1.5 trillion yen, an equivalent of $10.6 billion, in the coming years to promote the electrification efforts. The expenditure will go into developing vital EV components, such as batteries and chipsets.
The company’s leadership claims the significant investment is due to the growing opportunities in the EV space. The company executives claim the opportunities have expanded more than anticipated, hence the need to adjust accordingly.
More changes will include shifting some production operations to the US. The company’s leadership believes the passing of the Inflation Reduction Act will favor these operations. Initially, Mazda estimated that its EV sales would only be 15 percent of its total sales by 2030, but the figure has now changed to 40 percent under the new plan.
