What's New for the 2018 Mazda CX-3

Only three years since its introduction, the Mazda CX-3 still includes several updates that improve on its best characteristics. For example, its impressive driving dynamics promise to become even sharper thanks to revisions on its suspension tuning. For the 2018 model year, the CX-3 receives the G-Vectoring Control system and an enhanced low-speed automatic emergency braking system. A heated steering wheel, power driver's seat with memory settings, and a full-color head-up display are newly available to all trims. Mazda further tweaks the CX-3's chassis and steering to boost ride comfort, handling, and quietness. A new Machine Grey Metallic exterior color replaces the previous Meteor Grey Mica.

Cutting Edge Technology

Mazda avails the 2018 CX-3 in three trim levels: the Sport, the Touring, and the Grand Touring. The base Sports trim is well equipped for its price, and the convenience and comfort levels rise as you move up the lineup.

Standard features on the entry-level CX-3 Sport are 16-inch alloy wheels, air-conditioning, a 60/40-split folding rear seat, cruise control, and a height-adjustable driver's seat. The infotainment system comprises a 7-inch touchscreen, app integration (including Stitcher, Pandora, and Aha), a USB input, a CD player, hands-free connectivity, push-button start, and a six-speaker sound system.

Stepping up to the Touring model adds 18-inch alloy wheels, automatic headlights, heated mirrors, and automatic wipers to the Sport's standard features. The Touring interior is also plusher with heated front seats, a proximity entry function, cloth and faux leather-trimmed seats, automatic climate control, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, a sunglass holder, and an overhead console.

The range-topping Grand Touring builds on the Touring model's features with a sunroof, LED tail lights, LED headlights, LED fog lights, LED daytime running lights, and a head-up display. It also receives a navigation system, leather-trimmed seats, shift paddles on the steering wheels, simulated suede inserts, satellite radio, and a seven-speaker Bose surround sound system.

A Preferred Equipment package gives the Grand Touring Bose sound system and sunroof to the Touring model. An available Premium Package installs a six-way power-adjustable driver seat, a traffic-sign recognition system, a heated steering wheel, and driver-seat memory settings on the Grand Touring. The same package also upgrades some safety features and adds new ones that are not available to lower trims.

Next-Level Performance

2018 Mazda CX-3 FrontA 2.0-liter I-4 engine powers all 2018 CX-3s. The engine manufactures 146 horses and 146 lb-ft of torque and uses a six-speed automatic transmission to drive either the front or all wheels. When linked to the front wheels, EPA estimates that the engine returns 29/34 mpg city/highway. At 27/32 mpg, fuel economy is slightly lower but still excellent with the AWD system. Performance is one of the CX-3's strong points as it is the most exciting vehicle to drive in its class. It provides sharp and responsive handling and its 8.5-second zero to 60 mph run is the fastest in the segment. Braking is also excellent: they are soft enough to allow smooth modulation while still firm enough to provide ample stopping power. Additionally, the 2018 CX-3's steering feels sufficiently weighted, and its handling is responsive and lively. Also, its size allows for easy maneuverability in tight spaces, and the available AWD gives it an added advantage on snow, rain, and mud.

Smart Braking to Keep You Safe

2018 Mazda CX-3 RearStandard safety equipment includes a rear-view camera and Mazda Smart City Brake Support System that helps to avert collisions when traveling at speeds up to 19 mph. Rear cross-traffic alert and a blind-spot monitoring system are standard on the Grand Touring trim and optional on the mid-range Touring grade. The mentioned Grand Touring Preferred Equipment package avails high beam assist, adaptive cruise control, high-speed automatic emergency braking, and lane departure warning to the trim.
