Last year, several significant changes were made to the Mazda CX-5. As a result, only a few minor tweaks were deemed necessary to keep the vehicle fresh. The most exciting change involves the driver aids. The i-Activsense suite of features will now be standard on all trims. This means every 2020 CX-5 will come equipped with automatic high beams, lane-keeping assist, automatic emergency braking, pedestrian detection, and adaptive cruise control. Drivers who go with the Grand Touring or Signature trims also get a newly redesigned 8-inch infotainment screen.
The entry-level Sport trim has an attractive list of standard and available features in 2020. Included on this list are a leather-wrapped steering wheel, hands-free wireless connectivity, push-button start, LED headlights, and a 7-inch infotainment screen. The drivers' next option is known as the Touring. With this, the 2020 CX-5 gains dual-zone automatic climate control, heated front seats, smartphone integration, automatic wipers, and much more. Drivers can also choose the Grand Touring. This adds navigation and satellite radio. The Grand Touring also gets 19-inch wheels, LED fog lights, adaptive headlights, and more.
Going with the Grand Touring Reserve trim will add ventilation to the front seats, heat to the rear seats, a head's up display, and a heated steering wheel. This trim also comes with a more powerful engine and with standard all-wheel-drive. The final option is known as the Signature trim. It has premium leather upholstery, ambient lighting for the cabin, wooden trim, and other stylish touches.
Drivers of the 2020 CX-5 will have one of three engines underneath their hood. The first is a 2.5L four-cylinder. It can produce 187-horsepower and 186 lb-ft of torque when equipped in the Sport, Touring, or Grand Touring trim levels. The Grand Touring Reserve and Signature models come with the same basic engine, but it has been tweaked to produce up to 250-horsepower and 310 lb-ft of torque. Those who go with the Signature trim also have the option of going with a turbo 2.2L diesel engine. With this, the CX-5 produces 168-horsepower and 290 lb-ft of torque.
Mazda prioritizes safety. The CX-5 has already been named a top safety pick by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety. It has also received a five-star crash-test rating from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. This is mainly due to the long list of advanced driver aids included on all models in the i-Activsense suite. Also available on certain trim levels is a surround-view camera. Front and rear parking sensors can be added to select models, as well.
