Mazda is one of the latest automakers to announce they will be offering standard automatic emergency braking on all of their models by September 1, 2022. This announcement comes in wake of a recent collaboration between automotive brands, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety to offer this crucial technology as a standard feature on all new cars in the future.

The inclusion of standard automatic emergency braking on future Mazda cars and SUVs has become an integral part of Mazda’s i-ACTIVESENSE safety technologies strategy. As of now, automatic emergency braking (aka Smart City Brake Support) is standard on specific trims of the Mazda3, Mazda6, Mazda CX-3 and Mazda CX-5, but it is not yet available on all models. By 2022, this will no longer be the case; all Mazda models and trims sold in the U.S. will come standard automatic emergency braking.

Designed to help prevent avoidable accidents, automatic emergency braking is a system that uses radar and cameras to detect when a potential collision may occur. Once detected, the system uses signals to notify the driver of the impending danger. If the driver fails to react within the appropriate time, the car’s emergency brakes are applied in order to avoid said collision.

"Mazda's safety philosophy is based on understanding, respecting, and trusting the driver, because driving matters," said Masahiro Moro, president and CEO, MNAO. "To that end, Mazda is committed to implementing both passive and active safety technologies on our vehicles to help drivers in unpredictable driving situations."

At Reliable Mazda, we look forward to acquiring future Mazda models with standard automatic emergency braking and support the automaker’s safety initiatives. To view our current lineup of Mazda models offering the advanced safety technology, please stop by our dealership today.
