Specs at a Glance
The Mazda CX-5 returns for 2022 with some major updates, already one of the highest-rated crossovers in its class. Not only has this SUV received a styling refresh, but it’s also been engineered to deliver an improved driving experience. Meanwhile, newly available black leather upholstery with red stitching helps give the cabin an especially elegant look. Let’s take a closer look at how the 2022 Mazda CX-5 compares to the 2021 Mazda CX-5.
Performance
Both the 2022 Mazda CX-5 and the 2021 Mazda CX-5 give you the same SkyActiv four-cylinder engines to choose from. While the standard 2.5-liter engine develops a competitive 187 horsepower, the turbocharged version of this engine elevates driving fun with 250 horsepower. A revised six-speed automatic transmission arrives for 2022, which is smoother and more responsive. Mazda also updated the 2022 model’s suspension. Drivers can look forward to enjoying a higher quality of ride comfort. While the 2021 Mazda CX-5 offered an i-Activ AWD system as an option, every new 2022 Mazda CX-5 comes standard with this advanced AWD system. Meanwhile, a new Mazda intelligent Drive Select system allows you to customize the crossover’s performance further.
Appearance
Many drivers loved the 2021 Mazda CX-5’s sculpted exterior styling. Mazda’s Kudo design philosophy gives a highly sporty look. However, reflective body surfaces give the new 2022 Mazda CX-5 an even sleeker profile. While the crossover’s front fascia receives a fresh grille and redesigned headlights, new rectangular LED taillights help the rear fascia to stand out. All-new alloy wheels also bolster the SUV’s curb appeal. Expect the updated Signature trim and the new 2.5 Turbo trim to cause more heads to turn.
Features
The same great features are available on the 2022 Mazda CX-5. Several advanced safety technologies are available, including Traffic Jam Assist. Meanwhile, Mazda Connect features a standard 10.3-inch infotainment screen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone support. Other available niceties include an Active Driving Display, a 10-speaker Bose premium sound system, ventilated front seats, and heated rear seats.
