What's New for the 2018 Mazda6?

The exterior of the Mazda6 has received a face lift. With it's bolder and more aggressive front end and elongated, sleeker headlights the new Mazda6 evokes a more luxurious experience. The most significant upgrade made on the 2018 Mazda6 is the engine. The old 2.5 liter 4-cylinder engines are replaced by a new 2.5 liter 4-cylinder but with the addition of a turbocharger. This is sure to increase the speed and acceleration of the new Mazda considerably. See below for a more detailed look at the 2018 Mazda6 performance specifications. Mazda's Dynamic Pressure turbocharger tuning has also been added to the package, and offers peak torque at as low as 2000 RPM. The transmission on the Mazda has also been upgraded to a six speed Skyactiv-Drive automatic transmission which is guaranteed to seamlessly deliver the increased performance of the turbocharger to the wheels. The interior has also been upgraded with the addition of Mazda's next generation racing style seats. The rest of the interior such as the materials used on the dashboard, steering wheel and across the entire inside of the car have been upgraded to provide a more premium feel. The display has been upgraded to an 8 inch screen with improved definition and color rendering. Another display has been added in the instrument cluster ahead of the driver. The Mazda's exterior cameras have also been upgraded, now available with a 360 degree view around the entire vehicle. Mazda Radar Cruise Control has also been added to assist drivers in accident prevention at highway speeds and in more congested traffic conditions.

Trims & Features

While the exact trims for the 2018 Mazda6 have not yet been released, we are assuming they will be similar to the three 2017 Mazda6 trims. The 2017 Mazda trims are the Sport, Touring, and Grand Touring. If we are to assume that the features will be allocated to the three trim's in a similar way to the 2017 model, then Mazda Radar Cruise control, and the 360 exterior camera view will only be available on the Grand Touring model; along with additions such as a power sliding glass moonroof, 19" alloy aluminum wheels, Bose Centerpoint surround sound audio system with 11 speakers, traffic sign recognition, and many other features not available in the Sport and Touring trims.

Powertrain Specs

2018 Mazda6 ExteriorThe horsepower of the 2018 Mazda6 has seen as a significant increase compared to it's 2017 version. The 184 horsepower of earlier Mazda6 models has been somewhat disappointing given the sporty styling and handling performance of the Mazda6. Mazda has dutifully responded to this horsepower deficiency by upgrading the 2.5 liter 4 cylinder engine to a more robust one and adding a turbocharger. With the addition of the turbocharger, the Mazda now peaks at 250 horsepower and 310 ft-lb of torque with premium fuel. This is a significant leap in performance for the new 2018 Mazda6.

Mazda6 Safety

2018 Mazda6 SafetyPrevious Mazda6 models have all been awarded a 5 star safety rating. Not much has changed as far as air bag placement or the chassis on the Mazda6, so the safety rating probably will most likely not change either. With the addition of the 360 view camera and Mazda Radar Cruise Control, the new 2018 Mazda6 will only be safer.
