2021 Mazda CX-9 Exterior

What's New For the 2021 Mazda CX-9?

For 2021, the Mazda CX-9-now in its second production cycle-has a larger, 10.2-inch infotainment display, and it receives a brand-new Carbon Edition variant.

Available Features in the 2021 CX-9

The 2021 CX-9 provides Sport, Touring, Carbon Edition, Grand Touring, and Signature models. A three-row midsize crossover, the CX-9 can seat up to seven people on the Sport and swaps the second-row bench-style seat for a pair of captain chairs on the Carbon Edition Signature to reduce maximum capacity to six people. The Touring and Grand Touring offer you the choice between the two configurations.

Cloth seat upholstery, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, front-seat heating, and power adjustability on the driver seat are standard. You can upgrade to the Touring for leather seat upholstery and power adjustability extended to the front passenger seat. The Carbon Edition gains driver-seat memory, steering-wheel, second-row heating, and front-seat cooling, and it stands out with the red finish on the leather seats. Go for the top-of-the-line Signature if you want Nappa leather upholstery and contrast stitching on the steering wheel.

Anchored by the brand-new 10.2-inch display, the Mazda Connect multimedia system combines Bluetooth, a six-speaker AM/FM stereo system, HD Radio, hands-free text messaging, voice recognition, two USB ports and an audio jack, and smartphone integration via Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Also standard are tri-zone automatic climate control, remote keyless entry, and push-button engine start.

The Touring gets a power liftgate, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, and a garage-door opener. On the Carbon Edition, the auto-dimming rearview mirror is frameless, and it gains a power moonroof, a navigation system, and three months of SiriusXM Radio. The Grand Touring and Signature have four additional USB ports, wireless phone charging, a 12-speaker Bose surround-sound system, and three years of SiriusXM Traffic and Travel Link.

How Much Power Does the Mazda CX-9 Have?

Powering the 2021 CX-9 is a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine with up to 250 horsepower if fueled by premium gas. It is hitched to a six-speed automatic transmission, with paddle shifters added on the Carbon Edition, Grand Touring, and Signature trims. Front-wheel drive is standard and delivers a peak fuel economy of 22/28 mpg, although you can swap it for an all-wheel drive system to improve traction performance.

2021 Brings a Wide Selection of Safety Tech

At the base level, the 2021 Mazda CX-9 is stuffed with driver-assistance features, which include adaptive cruise control, automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert, lane keep assist, lane departure warning, pre-collision warning, and a rearview camera with rear parking sensors. For protection during a crash, the CX-9 provides six airbags. The Carbon Edition introduces front parking sensors for the rearview camera, driver attention-assist, and reverse automatic braking. Only the Grand Touring and Signature get a 360-degree camera.
