Car Not Accelerating

If you own a fast and sporty Mazda, you expect the car to be quick and responsive to accelerate. Therefore, you might be surprised when you find one day that the car is slower than usual to respond when you step on the gas. A sluggish Mazda might seem like just an annoyance, but it can indicate that there is a more severe problem with the car that you will want to address. A slow accelerator pedal can mean a mechanical issue with your vehicle that you'll need to ask a skilled Mazda technician to fix. These common issues may be the underlying cause of the car's acceleration problems.

Dirty Oxygen Sensor or Mass Air Flow Sensor

If something happens to a sensor in the car's engine, the performance and acceleration are usually some of the main areas that are affected. You might find that the car doesn't accelerate as fast as it did before if the sensors are worn out or dirty. The car may have other mechanical problems as well, including rough idling and starting. The oxygen and mass airflow sensors are key for regulating fuel mixture in the engine and for supplying the engine with oxygen. They'll need to be cleaned or replaced if they are bad.

Malfunctioning Throttle Position Sensor

The throttle position sensor is another part of the car's engine that can cause problems if it goes bad. The throttle position sensor monitors the opening angle of the throttle valve. The sensor uses the angle's position to determine how much fuel the engine requires to operate. If the sensors get dirty or start to fail, the engine may not get sufficient volumes of fluid, which in turn can make its performance suffer.

Clogged Fuel Filter

Every Mazda comes with several filters that are crucial for keeping possibly harmful particles out of the air that enters the engine and the fuel lines. The fuel filter typically purifies fuel before it starts circulating through the car. The filter performs this task by trapping and removing particles of dirt and dust, or other debris. If the filter gets too dirty, contaminants can slip into the fuel lines and engine, which translates to performance problems with your car.

Dirty Air Filter

A dirty air filter can also pose a threat to the engine and the car's performance. The air filter removes contaminants that enter the car through the air. Similarly, a dirty air filter can't process contaminants and must be replaced or thoroughly cleaned.
